Liner notes from back of the record: A studio called Gold Star, an engineer named Stan Ross, and 15 musicians who are always late, are the main ingredients for CHÉR's third album - in fact, to all our albums. They are the people behind the scenes. Although their names never appear on the records they are as important as the producer and the artist in making a hit. - A recording session takes three hours. The same song is played over and over as many as 30 times. And each time the producer asks for more. And each time they give more. This album, along with our thanks, is dedicated to them. Stan Ross, our mild-mannered engineer. Mike Rubini, our glamour boy harpsichord player. Lyle Ritz, our quiet electric base player. Cliff Hills, our other quiet upright bass player. Frankie Capp, our three-handed drummer. Jim Gordon, also a glamour boy percussionist. Gene Estes, a distinctively bald-headed percussionist. Jungle Geno, a true Beatnik percussionist. Mike Post, who learned to play a guitar from a used car dealer (12 string). David Cohen, who also doubles for Peter Ustinoff, 12 string guitar. Mack Rebennack, who talks so hip you need a de-coder to understand him, guitar. Don Peake, who has definite dictator tenedencies, guitar. Carole Kaye, our only female, guitar. George (Bang Bang) Poole, violin and flute. And last but not least, Harold Battiste, who bears a strong resemblance to Mr. Clean, arranger and conductor. Now, at the risk of sounding prejudiced, I must add that I am especially proud of CHÉR. For each song in this album, I asked her to pour out her heart and her soul - she did.
