Film composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold (The Sea Hawk, Robin Hood) wrote three brilliant string quartets. The Chilingirian String Quartet recorded the First (from 1924 while he was still a rising star in Vienna before fleeing Europe) and the Third (written in America in 1945 after a period of silence during the Nazi era). Brilliant performances, captured on tape by master producer/conductor Charles Gerhardt.
Not released on LP in North America, this is a rare find here.
