We are two Ottawa musicians who saw Franklin’s expedition as a metaphor for events in our own lives over the last decade and as a reflection of many aspects of life in general. Themes of isolation, adventure, sadness, and joy made the creation of this record both rewarding and humbling.
We recognize that, while we invoke imagery of the story of Franklin to help articulate our own personal experiences, the story is not our own, and we remain curious and open to how it interests and impacts many different communities within Canada and beyond.
While these songs are now out in the world, we are still learning about the story, our country, its shared history, and ourselves. We will endeavour to keep listening and learning from those wishing to share meaningful perspectives about what the story means to them.
Throughout the development of these songs, we have had many discussions with friends and new acquaintances, all in the spirit of helping us understand that the story of Franklin carries different weight to different people - and that continues to marvel us the more we grow with it.
We hope that you enjoy our art, and that it might add to the conversation in its own way as this fascinating part of history continues to unfold.
