Record Centre : Radia

Under the moniker Radia, Ryan Davis is an innovative composer-performer, combining inspiration of classical, folk, electronic, and hip-hop music with a loop pedal. Praised by The WholeNote as “showcasing multitudes of colours and possibilities, with much skill and imagination,” Radia, also known as Saskatchewan-raised artist Ryan Davis, has swiftly emerged as a singular creative force. Unifying his extensive classical training with the inspiration of folk, electronic, and hip-hop music, he finds himself seamlessly blending in between creative spaces, having been described as a “composer, violist, and electronic Wunderkind” (OperaRamblings). Radia’s performance will feature original compositions that utilize looping technologies, woven into a curatorial flow including covers of pop hits and classical favourites in new and unique contexts.

Hear Radia again, this time with the Ironwood Quartet, at Chamberfest’s 30th Anniversary Celebration, Thursday, August 8 (Closing Night).

Friday July 26th at 4PM

Joseph Phillips is one of Canada’s most versatile double bassists. He performs with Toronto’s genre-defying Art of Time Ensemble, reimagines folk traditions learned from field recordings with banjoist Jayme Stone’s Folklife, struts his stuff with Payadora Tango Ensemble, performs ample chamber music, and plays principal bass in the London Symphonia.

Equally at home in a concert hall or at a folk festival, Joe has appeared as guest principal bass with the NAC Orchestra and the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, has performed at the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow and the Winnipeg Folk Festival, and toured Canada with chamber music supergroup Octagon.

Catch him between Chamberfest performances with Art of Time and the Ottawa Bach Choir for a rare solo set at the Record Centre that’s all about that bass, no treble!
